In March 2026, Tagi Pads received the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Standardisation Mark — a turning point that lets us move from a village workshop to retail shelves across Kenya.
For a small social enterprise in rural Uasin Gishu, the KEBS mark is more than a certificate. It is independent proof that our reusable pads meet the same standards of quality and safety as any product on a Kenyan shop shelf — and it opens doors that were closed to us before.
What the mark means
The Standardisation Mark confirms that Tagi Pads have been tested and certified to national quality standards. In practice, that means three big things for us:
- We can now stock our products in retail stores, within Kenyan borders and beyond.
- Schools, partners and government programmes can buy from us with full confidence.
- We can produce at a larger scale, knowing every batch meets a recognised standard.
If you are in Kenya, you can verify the mark yourself by sending SM#95724 to 20023 (SMS charges may apply).

From a $2,500 grant to a certified product
It is worth remembering where this began. Just a year earlier, a $2,500 grant from the Boone Sunrise Rotary Club bought our first sewing machines and trained six teenage mothers to make pads by hand. From those first stitches to a national quality mark in twelve months is a milestone the whole team is proud of.
“The certification has given us confidence and credibility. We are now ready to produce at a larger scale — and reach far more girls.”
What’s next
Our goal now is to sell in bulk so we can buy materials in bulk and bring costs down, train more young women, and replicate the model in other parts of the county and country. If your school, company or programme would like to stock or sponsor Tagi Pads, we’d love to hear from you.
